Working in Mount Pleasant

What we see on Mount Pleasant roofs

Brown phosphate rock was found near town in 1895, and the population went from 466 in 1890 to 2,007 in 1900. The Ruhm addition, southwest of Hay Long Avenue, was platted in 1899, and houses kept going up in the town’s neighborhoods through the 1930s. The Mount Pleasant Commercial Historic District around the Public Square and the North Main Street Historic District are both on the National Register.

Most homes from that era are one or two story frame houses: Queen Anne and Folk Victorian designs, bungalows, foursquares, and small worker cottages. Pyramid Vernacular houses with steep pyramid roofs and Cottage Revival houses with sharply pitched, irregular gables are among the types documented in the older neighborhoods. Steep, cut up roofs take more care, with more valleys, more flashing, and staging that has to be planned before the first bundle goes up.

At the eastern edge of town, Rattle and Snap stands on Andrew Jackson Highway, and US 43 runs toward Columbia through the Ashwood Rural Historic District. Mount Pleasant is about an hour and fifteen minutes from Murfreesboro by Interstate 840, Interstate 65, and Bear Creek Pike through Columbia. That is a long drive, so please call first. We group Mount Pleasant jobs into scheduled blocks and will tell you when a crew is planned for southern Maury County.

Common needs

What Mount Pleasant homeowners usually call about

Steep cottage roofs

Pyramid Vernacular and Cottage Revival houses have steep pitches and tight valleys. We plan staging and flashing details before quoting so the price holds.

Boom era houses

Houses built between the 1890s and the 1930s may have board decking and earlier layers underneath. We check the attic and accessible edges before writing the proposal.
